Swimming Pool
Slip Testing.

Scottish leisure centres, hotel pools, and spa facilities all require specialist wet-barefoot slip testing. Under BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 we use the pendulum with slider 55 — the softer barefoot slider specified by the standard — to produce a PTV value directly comparable with general floor PTV, under the same UKAS-accredited methodology.

Testing swimming pool in Scotland

Swimming pool decks are tested using the pendulum with slider 55 — the barefoot slider under BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 — rather than the standard slider 96 used for shod testing. Bare feet have materially different friction characteristics from shoes, and a floor that passes with slider 96 can read very differently with slider 55, so correct slider selection is essential.

We test swimming pool products both in our UKAS ISO 17025 accredited laboratory (Schedule 7933) and in situ across Scottish commercial premises. Laboratory pre-testing is typically the most cost-effective approach for specification; in-situ testing is used for post-installation verification, annual compliance monitoring, and forensic post-incident evidence.

Typical turnaround: 48 hours from sample receipt (laboratory) or 48 hours from site attendance (in-situ). All testing issues a full UKAS-accredited certificate suitable for Scottish specification, tender, building-control, insurance, and litigation purposes.

FAQ

Questions about
swimming pool testing.

What standard do you test Scottish pool areas to?

BS 7976 / BS EN 16165 pendulum testing, using slider 55 (the barefoot slider specified by the standard) for wet-barefoot zones and slider 96 for adjacent shod zones. All testing is under the same UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation (Schedule 7933).

Do Scottish pool tiles need specific certification?

Yes — many tiles sold for pool use fail to achieve adequate wet-barefoot PTV on independent testing. We recommend independent pendulum verification (slider 55) before specifying pool tiles for any Scottish commercial installation.

Can you test Scottish spa and wellness areas?

Yes — all wet barefoot environments. This includes pool decks, changing rooms, shower areas, steam room floors, and sauna entrances.
