Marine & Ferry
Slip Testing.

Scotland’s ferry network (CalMac, NorthLink, Western Ferries), cruise terminals, and harbour infrastructure all combine persistent wet conditions with high passenger volumes. UKAS-accredited slip testing supports passenger safety, crew welfare, and operator liability.

Risk profile

Where slips
actually happen.

Every sector has distinct slip risk zones. Scottish marine & ferry premises share these common high-risk patterns — where UKAS-accredited testing delivers the most measurable safety and claims-defence value.

ZONE/01

Ferry decks and passenger walkways

Exterior ferry decks combine salt spray, continuous wet conditions, and variable weather. Interior walkways handle passengers in waterproofs tracking moisture across the entire route.

ZONE/02

Terminal concourses

Ferry terminals — Oban, Ullapool, Stornoway, Aberdeen, Scrabster — handle concentrated peak-demand passenger movement during turnarounds. PTV degradation during Scottish winter is severe.

ZONE/03

Gangways and passenger boarding

Gangway transitions are the highest-risk single zone at any marine interface. Boarding points combine variable gradient, salt, and passenger load.

ZONE/04

Cruise and harbour facilities

Scottish cruise ports (Edinburgh Leith, Invergordon, Kirkwall, Lerwick) handle high-volume turnarounds with older guests and variable weather.

FAQ

Questions from
Scottish marine & ferry operators.

Do you test Scottish ferry vessels and terminals?

Yes. Vessel testing can be co-ordinated with refit or dry-dock periods. Terminal and harbour testing can be scheduled around sailing patterns. We work with ferry operators and harbour authorities to arrange compliant attendance.

Can you test during a cruise turnaround?

Cruise port testing is best scheduled outside turnaround peaks to avoid passenger conflict. Terminal pendulum testing can still be efficient in the windows between calls.

Does saltwater affect surface PTV over time?

Yes. Salt-driven micro-abrasion degrades marine surfaces faster than shore equivalents. A deck at PTV 40 at build may read PTV 26 three years later — regular re-testing is essential for Scottish marine assets.
